As the chilly November winds usher in the season of stouts and turkeys, Gizmo is on deck with the hot chocolate. Aztec Imperial Chocolate Stout is part of Gizmo’s robust Inventor Series and measures in at a toasty 9.2% ABV. While stouts and chocolate certainly aren’t strangers, I’m excited to see how Gizmo can elevate this classic combination.
Aztec Gold pours a deep, dark brown with a slight ruby tint. The head is thick and creamy with a rich beige hue. The aroma has an array of dark fruit characteristics with a heavy chocolate and vanilla presence. Coffee and brown sugar can also be detected on the nose.
The flavor of this stout is like biting into a solid bar of dark chocolate. The powerful dark chocolate presence is balanced by vanilla cream and light spice. Molasses and coffee notes accompany a mild bitterness on the finish. The heavy, creamy mouthfeel matches the flavor profile perfectly.
Aztec Gold has an insane level of dark chocolate flavor that is sure to delight all the chocolate lovers out there. This cacao masterpiece would have surely made the Aztecs proud, but let’s not forget that they were also raging cannibals. So while they may have suggested pairing this with human flesh, you may want to try a Mexican mole dish or thick rib eye.
