SweetWater has been reeling in craft beer enthusiasts for 18 years with their delicious, hoppy bait. To commemorate this achievement, the brewers at SweetWater released a limited Belgian Tripel batch. If the rarity of this celebratory ale isn’t enough to get you on the hook, the gilded bottle that houses it will draw you in like a fish to a sparkling lure. And if that STILL isn’t enough to get you excited about popping this bottle, there’s probably a wine cooler with your name on it… somewhere…
This tripel pours a cloudy, golden amber with a wispy head that leaves a lacy trail as it dissipates. The aroma is citrus forward with yeasty notes of clove and light spice. The scent is something along the lines of an IPA/Belgian blend.
The flavor profile also opens up as somewhat of an IPA/Belgian Ale hybrid with a strong grapefruit and lemon presence. Sweet tropical fruit and light notes of banana lead into a strong, peppery spice. A flash of sweetness coats the palate before finishing with a mouth-drying bitterness.
SweetWater put their signature hop forward twist on a classic style with their 18th Anniversary Belgian Tripel. While not overly complex, this tripel has a pleasant way of bouncing between sweet and bitter as it meanders across your palate. SweetWater loves their hops, and who can blame them? This birthday brew is an excellent ode to a terrific Georgian brewery. Cheers!
