Green Man IPA, he’s like the jolly green giant of booze. You can learn more about the legendary Green Man on the brewery’s web site, but the main take away from their description is that you never know who could be a Green Man… Hell, I might be a Green Man!? Unless being green is a prerequisite… Then I’m just a regular man. :(
Green Man IPA pours a copperish amber with a sudsy head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is primarily floral citrus with a mild undertone of sweet malt. The sweetness is slightly out of character for the style, but attractive none the less.
The flavor profile has the hop-forward character you would expect from an IPA with strong grapefruit, spice, and pine. The malts impart a light, bready sweetness that works well to mellow the hops. The finish is crisp and clean with only a moderate bitterness that lingers ever so slightly. The body is very light given the strong presence of malt and hops.
Don’t fear the Green Man; Green Man is our friend. This IPA definitely gets extra points for balance. Most IPAs these days try to blow your head off with some (or all) aspects of hop flavor. This IPA strikes an artisanal level of balance between hops and malt with just the right amount of bitter aftertaste. This is a great beer for the outdoors. Who knows, maybe you’ll see the Green Man while you’re out there. Maybe he’ll be me?! (probably not)
