We all knew this day was coming. The final chapter, SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale, comes just in time for the fish Fridays of lent. Knowing which beverages are going to make you actually want to eat fish instead of red meat is crucial! The FFSC score is all tied up at YES: 1 NO: 1 MAYBE: 1. The final judgment must be made!!
SweetWater 420 pours a solid amber with a thin, bubbly head that is gone just as quickly as it arrives. There’s a floral, hoppy aroma with hints of…citrus. I realize that I say every other beer smells or tastes citrusy…It’s not my fault…it’s a popular beer aroma/flavor these days.
With that said, it also has a lemony, citrus taste to it. Before you pass judgment, I also tasted some other stuff in there too! There is a light malty sweetness toward the end with some unexpected spiciness. There was some bitterness too…with a medium body…maybe slightly biscuity…jk just citrusy.
It’s pretty clear to me that SweetWater 420 is an awesome, flavorful session ale that DOES in fact make me crave a fish sandwich. Although half of the beers in the SweetWater Tackle Box had me hankering for some sea creatures on wheat, I can’t definitively say that the fish picture on the bottle was the sole factor. However, it certainly didn’t hurt…
