Ruthless Rye IPA by Sierra Nevada offers yet another spin on the IPA style. Sierra Nevada typically has some pretty sick bottle art, and this is really no exception. The angry farm maid gives off some eerie Japanese anime vibes. Rye is serious business…
Ruthless Rye pours a deep, almost brown, amber with a thick, billowing head. The aroma is sweet and spicy with some citrusy undertones. It has the look and smell of a hardy sipper.
The flavor is an odd mixture of peppery spice and malty sweetness. Midway through, it blossoms into bright citrus and finishes with bitter sweetness. There’s a fair amount of weight on the body of this beer that adds to the illusion of eating a loaf of bread as opposed to drinking a beverage.
Ruthless Rye IPA is an interesting twist on the IPA that boasts a full roster of bold flavors. This beer would go really well with a juicy rack of lamb chops or a thick rib eye accompanied by some boiled potatoes. Kanpai, homies.
