At first glance, this beverage looks like a regular Woodchuck Hard Cider. However, this is no regular cider… This is Hopsation: the hop forward cider infused with cascade hops. In my opinion, hops are a lot like butter in that they both make everything taste better. It is time to test that theory.
Hopsation pours a pale green/yellow with a moderate level of carbonation. The aroma gives off notes of apple (duh), pear, and light citrus from the hops.
There are more competing flavors in this beverage than an Indian curry. It starts with an intense green apple sourness that mellows out into some light sweetness before bursting into hoppy citrus. It then progresses back into the traditional cider sweetness followed by the trademark hop bitterness. The body is incredibly light, like what you would expect from a cider.
If you’re letting the fact that this is a cider scare you off… Don’t! This is an incredibly unique beverage that is actually more complex than I expected. For beer lovers going gluten free, this is an outstanding option. For everyone else, this is a fun change of pace that doesn’t blast the enamel off your teeth with sweetness like most ciders.
