I really only have two questions…when is Beer Camp, and how can I get there?! If this is a real thing, I am very interested and would love additional details. Until I get my hand written invitation to learn about the great outdoors, friendship, and the joys of beer, I suppose I’ll have to settle for the product of this “Beer Camp”: Hoppy Lager by Sierra Nevada.
This lager (if you can call it that) pours a bright, bubbly straw. The heavy carbonation rushes to the top to produce a thin head that hangs around for a couple minutes before completely disappearing. The scent is extremely IPA-esque with heavy citrus notes. The surprise here is that I actually picked up some light pear aromas in the background. I’m learning things from camp already!
Hoppy Lager continues to borrow from the IPA with a robust citrus flavor that dominates the profile. There’s a huge burst of grapefruit that fizzles out into an almost palate cleansing lemon mixed with light pine. The lemony twist at the end brings this beer back into lager territory with a crisp, refreshing finish. The mouthfeel is also lagerish as it is very light with a hefty level of carbonation.
Hoppy Lager by Sierra Nevada does a great job of blending IPA flavors with lager quality refreshment; Kind of like the way summer camp blends practical life skills with enduring, lifelong friendships…seriously…please let Beer Camp be real. Either way, this is an awesome spring seasonal that you definitely need to get your hands on (especially if this is truly a one-time only brew as the bottle suggests).
